The film The Beach, based on a true story, takes the viewer on a journey to the eponymous beach in the island world of the Thai Andaman Sea. Leonardo di Caprio embodies an American backpacker who has to endure various adventures with two companions before he actually reaches the legendary beach. What begins as a search for a paradise, however, ultimately ends in violence and disillusionment – which disturb the viewer all the more in view of the seemingly unreal beauty of the locations.

• The Beach was mostly filmed on the Thai archipelago Koh Phi Phi, which was declared a national park in 2004 and whose white sandy beaches, turquoise blue waters, and tropical jungles form the authentic and dreamlike backdrop.
• The most important setting is Maya Bay on the uninhabited island of Koh Phi Phi Leh at the time of filming, a bay framed by high limestone cliffs.
• Beautiful, fine sandy beaches can also be found on the larger neighboring islands; the surrounding coral reefs attract snorkelers and divers.

• Wallilabou Bay was transformed into the governor’s seat of Port Royal with great effort – piers, warehouses, and residential buildings were built according to a historical model. Ships, weapons, and costumes were also elaborately designed.
• If you want to enjoy a good rum, stop at the Black Baron bar, located on idyllic Cumberland Bay directly on the palm-lined beach. Dark wood furniture, skull flags, as well as posters, photos, and props of the film provide the right privateer atmosphere.

Island idyll Hawaii – this is where the dinosaur spectacle Jurassic Park was created

However, what not all fans know is: the extremely successful action film, which four sequels have followed to this day, was mostly shot in Hawaii. This did not detract from the atmosphere – Hawaii is also located in the Pacific Ocean and enjoys a tropical warm and humid climate, which is responsible for the lush vegetation of the archipelago: the ideal setting for the green primeval forests in which the dinosaur park is located.

• Completely safe from the Tyrannosaurus Rex, the Velociraptors, or the poisonous Dilophosaurus, Hawaiian vacationers can visit some of the most important filming locations, including the magnificent cliffs, gorges, and waterfalls of the Na-Pali cliffs of Kauai and the area of Kualoa Ranch.
• The region also served as a backdrop for other productions, for example, for the TV series Lost or the monster spectacle Godzilla.
• The valley known as Jurassic Park Valley can be experienced both on foot and from the air on a helicopter flight.

The largest city in the United States, New York is not only a magnet for visitors from all over the world but also a hot spot in the film business. No wonder – iconic buildings such as the Empire State Building, and the Statue of Liberty, skyscrapers, street canyons, and hectic squares such as Times Square offer the perfect backdrop for action-packed blockbusters. But countless comedies and romantic films were also shot in the Big Apple – be it Kevin alone in New York, Harry and Sally, or the Manhattan Love Story, cinema lovers could probably spend a whole week or more here tracking down the locations of favorite movies.
